Snow covered windfall apples

I had to take this photo, the last of the windfalls on the garden table. As the temperature plummets I hope the birds take advantage of these apples.

On Saturday 5th December, it's the Aboyne Lodge School Christmas Fair. My children use to go to the school and for many years I was on the school committee (ALSA), helping to raise funds for the school. This year a friend and I have been invited to have a stall at the fair. We will be selling some of our crafts, knitted, sewn and crocheted. So if you're looking for gifts and decorations, something a little different at reasonable prices, and your in the area pop in.

On Wednesday morning I went to the Courtyard Cafe, with my friend Sue, it's located at 11 Hatfield Road, next to St Albans Museum. The cafe's decor is charming, right up my street, an eclectic mix of old and new. We had tea and coffee and home made cakes, beetroot and carrot. I must recommend it, it has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.

I like this poster, very reminiscent of Edward McKnight Kauffer posters of St Albans in the 1920s

I took these photographs yesterday from my garden as the sun went down over Batchwood. The colours were stunning, but sometimes I think we don't always appreciate what we have on our own doorstep.

Today Ashley and I had lunch at Pizza Express thanks to the efforts of Claire at Being a Mummy  who organised a free meal for local bloggers. It was really nice to meet Kirsty ,   Hannah , Lisa  and especially Claire and her lovely children.

Trailer Trash Orchestra on main stage

Yesterday we went to the St Albans Festival of Food & Drink held in St Peter's Street and Market Place. This outdoor street festival had local restaurants serving and sampling food, chef demonstrations, foodie activities, Farmer's Markets and 2 live music stages. It was really enjoyable and the general consensus was this kind of event should be staged more often in St Albans.

Aboyne Lodge School Summer Fair '09

Aboyne Lodge Mural

I went to the Aboyne Lodge School Summer Fair yesterday looking to buy raffle tickets for their quilt. It's 10 years since Alice left the school but there are still tracers of her on the wall mural that she helped to paint (don't you just love children's drawings?). Ashley came with me, he left 13 years ago, and said memories came flooding back. It all still looked familiar the little house in the nursery playground was still there. Even Leanne was still on the food stall, I calculate she must have been helping out for over 16 years, give that women a long service medal!
