Bloggers, Snow, Flea Market and The Rex

A nest of Russian dolls

On Tuesday evening Ashley and I went to an informal meet-up of St Albans bloggers. Organized by Robin of St Alban's blog here at the Portland Arms here. A very eclectic bunch of blogs, it was nice to meet everyone. The blog I relate to and liked was Being Mrs C here.  Mrs C was the only one knitting a tea cozy on her blog and that's cool in my book; I want to knit one! That evening it started to snow and walking home was tricky. I took some photos in the morning as snow in Autumn is unusual here. On Wednesday Angie and I went to Hemel Hempstead shopping and happened on the Flea market there. This is a genuine Flea market of bric-a-brac, tat and vintage. I collect expresso coffee pots and found a large 9 cup size for just £2. There was a Russian nest of dolls, very well painted, for a £1. Also a sweet little cream jug made by Bing & Grondahl for 50p. The Flea Market is held every wednesday at the Market Square Hemel Hempstead it starts early and finishes soon after lunch. You never know what you might find, it's well worth a rummage! In the afternoon we went to the Rex cinema at Berkhamsted here. The Rex is a restored Art Deco gem. It use to seat 1,100 now it is just 300 in comfort. The seats are red velvet sumptuousness!. You get a warm welcome, and along with their usual cushions you could have a blanket yesterday too. We saw a French film 'I've Loved You So Long' subtittled. Not the most riveting film, it left me a little indifferent, but the cinema was the star. This is the type of cinema St Albans should have. The Rex should have been a template for restoring the Odeon , it works and is always full.

I love your coffee pot collection, the way you have them set up is kind of like your Babushka dollies! I think the babushkas are freat. Is this second smallest holding a pretzel? How funny!

I had the same thought about the pots and Babushka dolls and yes it's a pretzel. They are so sweet and beautifully painted.
