Dove Christmas decoration
The cut out parts of the bird. If you want your bird to have a beak attach the triangle to a corner of the felt square with Copydex. Let it dry. I didn't bother with a beak on the white bird
Fold the square into a triangle and starting from the end with the beak, sew the two edges together. You can hand sew or machine with a small zig zag stitch. When you have about 3cm (1 1/4in) left to stitch, stuff the bird with a small amount of wadding
Roll the two tail pieces together. Push the straight end of the tail piece into the body and stitch in place to secure
Attach the wings. Embellish them with beads and sequins
Fold down the beak end to form head. Sew on two glass beads for eyes at the same time secure the head to the body to keep it in position.
Sew a ribbon to the top of the bird to hang it from. Take a little time to find the point where the bird balances as it won't be the middle, the tail needs counter balancing. Sew a bell to the base

These felt birds are easy to make and only need a minimum amount of sewing. I have made one in white, like a dove. The instructions are for a coloured bird to make the parts easier to identify and assemble. This is a fiesta of a bird! To make the bird you will need

  • felt
  • small amount of wadding
  • two small glass beads for eyes
  • ribbon to hang the bird from
  • beads and bell for embellishment

I have included a free pattern for you to download.

Different colour ways for the felt bird can be seen here  on a newer pom pom emporium post.

Thank you for the free pattern.
I will make some with my grandson.
I think the bird would also look good if you joined a few together to make a mantle swag.

I like your idea for a swag. Children like making these, they are so simple but effective.

I love your felt bird decoration, but when I go to download the pattern it tells me Page Not Found. Is there any other way I can get it please? I really would like to make some. Thanks Joan.

Thank you for alerting me to that problem Joan, it should work now. Hope you have fun making them.
