Home Grown Plants

Home grown fig

It may look like this post is an excuse to show pretty pictures of plants, but I will give it some validity by saying I grew most of them from seed and I'm chuffed with the outcome. One of my favourite plants is a climber called Cobaea Cathedral Bells. This has the most beautiful, large, bell-shaped flowers that turn from bright green to a deep rich purple colour and look spectacular. I have been really pleased with the variety of tomato I planted, small and compact, easy to grow in a hanging basket, just groaning with fruit. The bonus of growing plants from seed is you have lots of seedlings, I was able to distribute some of mine to family and friends so they enjoyed them too. The fig tree (I didn't grow from seed), for the first time ever had ripe figs, they were the freshest figs I have ever tasted. I think I am surprised because we keep it outside all year in a pot, it's situated on a NE facing wall and this Summer hasn't been that great. A big success was the glass wasp catcher, bought from Poundland, which has worked so well. My only unease was the label on the Poundland wasp catcher because it said BEE CATCHER, a misnomer as bees are not attracted to them at all and I would be concerned if they were. WARNING:If you are a bit squeamish don't look at the last photo as it shows a seen of wasp carnage.

Love the pictures of the plants , the fig looks delicious. Mine too are doing well - even the tomato plant which was being eaten by something , I moved it to a different position & continued to feed it & now new leaves are appearing, hopefully tomatoes will follow.
