Kitsch is King

Homemaker plate, Hornsea Pottery summertime salt & pepper pot

On Friday a friend and I went to Hitchin. It was a lovely sunny day just right for a good old rummage at the open air flea market. kitsch was my theme, in retrospect! I was drawn to black, white and yellow ceramics. I found some classic black and white 'Homemaker' dinner plates; black, white and yellow abstract pattern side plates; black and white striped Hornsea Pottery salt & pepper pots and the piece de resistance was a black deer/antalope head wall vase. All is well in the land of Kitsch. We bought some plants and I spotted a copper pan, for 50p, begging to be a planter. I also bought a bundle of plastic knitting needles, I turned them into bangles later that day. On Friday evening we had a girls night at a friend's house. The eight of us had a lovely meal and at the end we were treated to a pud fest! On offer was summer pudding (Leanne said it was the best she had ever had, high praise indeed), almond and blueberry flan, lemon posset and, my favourite, pears warmed in Madeira wine with honey and walnuts, served with stilton cheese, what a combination.

For the month of February I have been participating in Thing-a-day, a dedicated website for artists/crafters. Over 300 people took part in the venture. The idea was to try and do something creative each day of February and post it on the website. It was great fun, I met lovely like-minded people who gave nothing but encouragement to each other. It was a very positive experience. The next Thing-a-day will be February 2010
