The window display in Accessorize caught my eye this morning, it was the pom poms! I thought the pom poms were there for display, like bunting, but they are scarves. They are £20 online from Accessorize but if you had the wool and the inclination you could make your own scarf/bunting by following the pom pom making tutorial here . Just remember to omit the face and wings!
How to make a Pom Pom Scarf tutorial
I would love to make one of these scarfs, but I have been looking at various websites and everyone says to use yarn and tie a knot before and after the pom pom. But am sceptic that such a knot would keep a pom pom in place, being that the knot can just tavel through the pom pom. Please could someone give me hint or tips in order for the pom poms to stay still and not come of with an accidental tug.
Hi Claire
I haven't made a scarf yet but out of interest I threaded some pom poms together. My suggestion for stringing is to use acrylic yarn doubled (even if the pom poms are made from wool, it's stronger) The doubled yarn should be a little long than the length of your finished scarf. The first pom pom is the anchor and you should pass the yarn through it a few times to secure it. I would then just string the pompoms onto the yarn, pushing them close, no gap between them. Making sure the thread goes through the centre of each pom pom. Like the first pom pom the last pom pom needs the thread passing thought a few times before you fasten off. Hope this might be of some help.
I saw this at Blue Water in Kent and thought I can make that!
A great idea, Anjie! I love making pompoms - and I have quite a bit of left-over wool. But of course here it is spring, and soon it will be summer, so perhaps I must leave this one for next year ...
What about making some in white for a snowball seasonal bunting then dust them off for a scarf next winter, it's just a thought!
