The Mighty Boosh Weekend

The Mighty Boosh

We went with great expectation because we love their TV show, but the live show was very poor. At times you glimpsed their genius but for the most part they rested on their laurels and it was very disappointing. The show was tipped too far towards their music and the comedy felt like an add on. The transition from cult to mainstream is often the death of shows like this. They lose their comedy edge relying on the adoration of young fans (some looked about six!) who whooped with delight as they recognised the procession of characters like Bollo, Naboo, Tony Harrison, Bob Fossil, the Moon etc. It was very self indulgent and suffered because of it. We all thought it was lazy writing, a bit of an insult really. A cynical money making exercise to sell merchandise. When they did their well rehearsed encore we were wishing they wouldn't. We so wanted it to be good but felt let down. Well got that off my chest! Luckily the rest of the weekend in Brighton was good. We went to see Alice's house. It's on a street where the houses are painted in pretty ice cream colours. Alice shares it with six other girls and two guinea pigs. The house is nice, nothing like you expect student accommodation to be. Ashley stayed at Alice's and Steve and I stayed at a nice seafront hotel.
