Crocheted Flowers - Roses

I crocheted these roses from a pattern featured on The Dark Knit It was very easy to follow even though I have never crocheted from a pattern before. I found out what the abbreviations in the pattern meant. I then found tutorials on how the stitches were formed. It all made sense eventually and it was easy.

Willow Knits at St Albans Farmers' Market

Today on St Albans Farmers' market I was really pleased to see a stall selling hand knitted scarves and other items. I was first attracted to the stall by the tea cosies, for my birthday Susie bought me a book on tea cosy knitting and I have every intention to knit one of the retro cosies. But the tea cosies on the stall were only £5 and I know how much work has gone into them, they are a bargain. Most of the scarves on the stall were in luxury yarns like silk and mohair and a very soft cotton chenille.

Sue Gaffney's Open Studio

I went to Sue Gaffney's open studio this afternoon. Sue has a workshop in the garden an ideal place for her to work and create beautiful objects. On display and for sale were some of her very stylish and individual bags, corsages, framed pieces and greeting cards. Sue is very approachable and welcoming, she conveys her passion for sewing and even goes into schools to teach children to sew, it seems to be a neglected subject. Sue can be found at 50 Normandy Road. Opening days are Saturdays 20, 27, September 4 October 2-5pm. Wednesdays 17, 24 September, 1 october 11am-3pm.

Knitting Alice

My daughter Alice is at Uni. in Brighton studying textiles specialising in knitting. Alice learnt to knit at junior school, Aboyne Lodge, taught by one of the mums who gave up her time and patience, It paid off, thank you Mrs Loader. One of Alice's projects I paticularily like is based on decay, she took photographs then interpreted the texture and colour using knitting and crochet. I think the colours are very effective, proud mother moment.
