Panda Cards

I went into Panda Cards today a small independent card shop in St Albans. It's an Aladin's cave of cards and related ephemera. Mary, who works there, was showing me some of their stock. I liked their old school vintage badges. Authentic looking enamel badges mounted on an imitation school report card. Instead of Prefect or Team Captain they proclaim Drinks Monitor, Best Man, Best Friend etc. I also liked the sheets of gift paper printed with the spines of old Penguin books, ideal for wrapping a present for a bookish friend. I found the perfect Christmas cards for Kim too.

First Week in November

On Tuesday I went to the Flea Market at the Town Hall with Susie, bumped into lots of people we knew. Sue Gaffney was selling her lovely handbags and Jo Copestick selling stylish home accessories. My friend Angie and I have decided to have a stall together at the Flea Market. This has galvanized me into making mode. So for the next few weeks I will be a sewing-knitting-crocheting-painting-sticking-monkey!

Flea Market at St Albans Town Hall 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month*

Today was the launch of a new venture at St Albans Town Hall, a Flea Market. The market is up stairs at the Town Hall. There was a mixture of stalls selling vintage and retro stuff but also artists and crafts people selling handmade items. Lots of lovely things to catch the eye. It is well worth a look, a good place to find unusual gifts. The next market will be on the 16 October 9 am - 3 pm. I bought some vintage knitting patterns, amongst other things.

*An exception to the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month will be NOVEMBER when it will be Tuesdays 4th and 25th.

Visiting Open Studios

On Saturday afternoon Susie and I decided to visit some of the Open Studios in St Albans. Steve and David were both away on their yearly cycling adventure to Italy. While we have had a few good days of sunshine here it has been raining heavily in Italy, unlucky!

Badges from Panda Cards

I went into Panda Cards this morning, it's a small friendly independent card shop. They always have a good selection of cards, especially if you are looking for something a little less run of the mill. Mary served me and at the counter, in a basket they had a selection of witty badges. At only 60p each it's a small price to raise a smile. Mary told me the SAGA LOUT badge was their best seller. Panda cards can be found at 3 Waddington Road, St Albans (at the side of Boots).

Dancing in the Street

Last night it was St Michaels Street folk evening. The street was closed to traffic for the evening so both dancers and onlookers could enjoy themselves. Four pubs in the street had live bands, we saw the Swanvesta Social Club playing at the Black Lion, a local band that have a loyal following and deservedly so with their inauthentic sound of Cuba, latin beat with just a hint of St Albans!
